Parent Letter January 29th

Candlemas: On Tuesday, February 2, we celebrate the Presentation of the Lord. By Jewish law, the firstborn son would be presented at the temple forty days after his birth. This feast marks Jesus’ presentation by Mary and Joseph. During the Presentation in the Temple, Simeon declared that Jesus would be a “light” and the Church developed a custom of lighting and blessing candles on this day. Catholics would customarily bring all the candles they would use in their home throughout the coming year to the Church to be blessed. The priest would also lead the congregation in a solemn procession to symbolize the light of Christ entering the temple. The flame of the Candle is a symbol of Jesus who came to enlighten our darkness. Fr. Peter will be celebrating Candlemas after the 8:30 a.m. Mass on Tuesday. If you have any candles you would like blessed for your home, please bring them! Candles should be in the designated area in the church prior to Mass on that day.
Catholic Schools Week: We kick off CSW with a student led Mass this Sunday at 10:00am Our celebration ends February 5. Throughout the week, students are asked to perform Random Acts of Kindness every day.
