St. Mary School Annual Spelling Bee January 22, 2021
St Mary School hosted its annual Scripps Spelling Bee on Friday, January 22, 2021. The top 2 spellers this year were: Alessandra Jess (7th grade) and Sloane Hayes (7th grade). Both will advance to the Regional Bee on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at the Old State Theatre in Traverse City. Matthew Solomon (7th grade) will serve as the alternate. Kathleen Dvoracek, St. Mary School Principal, was very pleased with the students’ participation. “Our students clearly studied the words and were excited about the spelling bee this year. It’s fun to see so many of the students keep advancing through the rounds and be competitive about this contest year after year.”
The Scripps Spelling Bee is in its 96th year, and will culminate this summer at the National Spelling Bee.
Grade level winners were:
5th Grade: Greyson (1st), Bella (2nd), Braylon (3rd)
6th Grade: Cheyana (1st), Gabby (2nd), Mary (3rd)
7th Grade: Alessandra (1st), Sloane (2nd), Matthew (3rd)
8th Grade: Addison (1st), Ellie (2nd)
